Men’s Mental Health in Manitoba

Manitoba is the only province in Canada with legislated recognition of Men’s Mental Health Awareness Week, the week before Father’s Day, via Bill 217. That makes Manitoba the first place in the country to put men’s mental health on the provincial calendar in law.

Bill 217, the legislated week

The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act was amended to include the Men’s Mental Health Awareness Week. In 2026 that week is June 9 to 15, leading into Father’s Day on June 21.

The Manitoba picture, in numbers

Per Statistics Canada, Manitoba’s male suicide rate sits at or above the Canadian average, with elevated rates among Indigenous men and rural men in agriculture, construction, and trades.
