Men’s Mental Health in Alberta
Alberta is where MenTELL was started in June 2023. It is also a province where men carry a heavier load of risk than the national average.
The Alberta picture, in numbers
Alberta has historically had higher male suicide rates than the national average, especially in rural communities and among trades and resource-sector workers. Per Statistics Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada, roughly 75% of suicide deaths in Canada are men, with the highest rates among men aged 40 to 59.
